In a Technical Communications course, I worked with a team to evaluate Gemini, a newly released AI tool, and create a recommendation report. Using a “think-aloud” protocol, we individually tested the tool, recording our real-time thoughts and reactions while completing specific tasks. We then analyzed these recordings, identifying repeated phrases and patterns, and categorized them by sentiment (positive, neutral, negative) across themes: navigation, prompt production, and AI policy limitations.

Our findings highlighted strengths such as Gemini’s intuitive layout and relevant content generation, alongside weaknesses like inconsistent adherence to user preferences and difficulty with business jargon. Key recommendations included enabling conversational threading, improving contextual understanding of prompts, and setting light mode as the default for better accessibility.

This project honed my technical writing and collaborative skills while emphasizing the importance of user feedback in improving technology. The final report delivered actionable suggestions to enhance Gemini’s usability and adaptability.
